Edoma Iyawot Academy was born from the spirit and legacy of Late Deaconess Edo Effiong Iyawot, a devoted mother, gifted teacher, and lifelong advocate for young learners. From her early education in Afaha Abia and Nsit Ibom through her teacher training and higher education, she demonstrated a deep belief that education could transform a child’s life, strengthen families, and uplift communities. Teaching was more than her profession; it was her calling. With patience, wisdom, and compassion, she nurtured confidence, encouraged curiosity, and helped children believe in their future.

The purpose of the Academy grew when her son, Ernest Iyawot, returned to Afaha Abia in late 2025 and saw children learning in difficult conditions. During that visit, he met Miss Aniekeme Reuben, a dedicated school administrator whose passion for children and commitment to teaching reminded him of his mother.

Seeing both the needs and the potential of the school, Ernest and Paul Iyawot felt a deep responsibility to continue their mother’s work. Together, Paul, Ernest, and Aniekeme envisioned a better learning environment with safe facilities, caring teachers, empowering technology, reliable electricity, internet access, and greater opportunities for children.

Their purpose is to ensure that children in Afaha Abia and the surrounding communities are not limited by where they were born, but are empowered with the knowledge, technology, character, and opportunities they need to shape their future. From that shared purpose, Edoma Iyawot Academy was born.

Today, Edoma Iyawot Academy is more than a school; it is the continuation of Edoma Iyawot’s calling, a son’s tribute, an educator’s passion, and a community’s hope. The Academy carries her spirit forward by combining education, character, compassion, and technology to help every child learn, grow, discover their gifts, and prepare for a successful future.

Her legacy is not simply a name on a building; it is a standard that every child matters, every child deserves dignity, and every child deserves the opportunity to reach their potential. Through its mission, “Changing Mindsets Through Technology,” the Academy honours her life and keeps her spirit of learning and service alive for generations to come.

Edoma taught with love. Ernest and Paul returned with purpose. Aniekeme led with passion. Together, their story became a legacy.

Our Journey

How the Academy came to be

The Calling

A teacher’s life of service

Late Deaconess Edo Effiong Iyawot devoted her life to teaching, believing that education could transform a child’s life, strengthen families, and uplift whole communities.

The Return

A son comes home

In late 2025, her son Ernest Iyawot returned to Afaha Abia and saw children learning in difficult conditions. The calling that had guided his mother began to stir in him.

The Meeting

A kindred spirit

There he met Miss Aniekeme Reuben, a devoted school administrator whose passion for children and commitment to teaching reminded him of his mother.

The Vision

A shared resolve

Ernest and Paul Iyawot chose to continue their mother’s work. Together with Aniekeme, they imagined a school with safe facilities, caring teachers, empowering technology, and real opportunity for every child.

The Beginning

A legacy becomes a school

From that shared purpose, Edoma Iyawot Academy was born, carrying the Deaconess’s spirit of learning and service into a new generation.

Our Mission

At Edoma Iyawot Academy, our mission is to provide a world-class, child-centered education that nurtures academically excellent, morally upright, technologically competent, and socially responsible learners.

Through innovative teaching and a safe, inclusive environment, we empower every child with the knowledge, character, and confidence to excel and make meaningful contributions to society.

Our Vision

The vision of Edoma Iyawot Academy reflects a commitment to shaping not only academically successful students but also individuals of integrity, leadership, and purpose. It recognises that education is more than acquiring knowledge, it is about nurturing character, critical thinking, creativity, and a lifelong passion for learning.

We seek to empower children with the knowledge, skills, and technological competence needed to thrive in today’s rapidly evolving world, while nurturing innovative thinking, strong character, and a growth mindset that prepares them to create a brighter and better tomorrow for themselves and for society.

Core Values

Five commitments we are held to

Not a poster in the corridor. These are the criteria we hire against, report on, and are judged by.

Integrity

Honesty, especially when it costs

Children are taught to own a mistake before it is discovered. Staff model the same. It is the value we discipline for most often, and forgive most readily.

Curiosity

The question is worth more than the answer

We reward the child who asks a hard question over the child who repeats an easy answer. Lessons are built around problems, not conclusions.

Excellence

Good enough is not a standard

Work is redone until it is right. Not to punish, to teach that finishing well is a habit, and habits form early.

Service

Leadership is what you do for others

Every pupil from Primary 3 holds a duty of service: reading to nursery classes, tending the garden, running assembly. No exceptions, no volunteers needed.

Innovation

Build the thing, then improve it

Children are given real tools and permitted to fail with them. A broken prototype is a lesson. A perfect one nobody built is not.

Respect

Every person in the building matters

Pupils greet the gateman, the cook, and the head teacher the same way. It is not manners. It is the whole point.

Our Philosophy

What we believe about every child

At Edoma Iyawot Academy, we believe that every child has unique potential, deserves dignity, and should be given the opportunity to discover, develop, and use their gifts. We believe education is not only about academic achievement; it is about developing the whole child: mind, character, confidence, creativity, and a sense of responsibility.

Inspired by the spirit and legacy of Late Deaconess Edo Effiong Iyawot, we believe that education should transform lives, strengthen families, and uplift communities. We therefore create a nurturing and disciplined environment where children are encouraged to think independently, ask questions, solve problems, demonstrate good character, and develop a lifelong love for learning.

We also believe that technology is a powerful tool for transforming education and expanding opportunity. Through technology, digital learning, reliable access to information, and innovative teaching, we seek to ensure that children in Afaha Abia and surrounding communities are not limited by where they were born, but are empowered with the knowledge, technology, character, and opportunities they need to shape their future.

Our Guiding Belief

“Every child matters. Every child has potential. Every child deserves an opportunity.”

Our Philosophy in One Sentence

Edoma Iyawot Academy exists to educate the mind, build character, inspire purpose, and use technology to empower every child to create a better future.

Our Motto “Changing Mindsets Through Technology”

Why Parents Choose Us

The four things families tell us made the difference

Nothing is missed

Eighteen children per class means a struggle is spotted in days. Intervention starts before it becomes a gap.

Technology with a purpose

Children build things. The screen is a workshop, not a babysitter, and every project ends with something real.

Safety you can inspect

Gated campus, vetted staff, CCTV, a resident nurse, and a safeguarding audit you are welcome to read.

Reports you can act on

No vague grades. Every report names what the child can do, what they cannot yet, and what we are doing about it.
